Interview with Accidental Pren-her Samantha Hartley

Podcast212 Today's special guest on The Accidental Pren-her Show, Stories of the Unexpected is Accidental Pren-her Samantha Hartley.

This quick-fire, 10 minute interview talks about how Samantha made the transition from being traditionally employed as a marketing manager for The Coca-Cola Company in Moscow, Russia to founding and owning her own company in the US: Enlightened Marketing.com.

It all began in 1992 when she wrote down on a piece of paper: I want to own my own business. Though she had no idea how this would ever come to be, Samantha did realize her dream. Today, she is a successful businesswoman living her dream.

Books, Blogs and Beyond Conference

Networking Today . . . I am thinking about my friend and POD Publisher, Yvonne DiVita. She talked with me yesterday about a Books, Blogs and Beyond Conference idea she and her team over at WME Books are floating around.

They are calling it Publishing 3.0.

Currently, they are circulating a survey to ascertain interest in their Books, Blogs and Beyond Conference, and also to receive some feedback about what topics would be of interest.

I took the survey yesterday -- it took me all of 6 minutes. Since this is one of the things the blogging community does best, help out Yvonne and Co. by taking this conference survey and giving them your feedback.

I promise. This is just a survey.

Every Woman Need to Discover Her Inner Samurai

Frontcover162x250Okay folks, this is just plain, unabashed, self-product marketing.

I wrote a book that came out in Nov 2007 and here's the plug for it.

Why does every woman need to discover her Inner Samurai?

Entrepreneurial women begin imagining their future the moment they start thinking about striking out on their own and starting their own business.

They think about what the business will become, the lives they will touch, the people they will help, the flexibility they will have, and the money they will make. They imagine building a business around their value system, their passion, and what’s important to them. They envision a business that fits beautifully into their life. In short, they dream about building a business from the inside out.

Unfortunately, no one hands her a manual explaining how to build a business from the inside out. That is, until now.

More than just an inspirational book, Discovering Your Inner Samurai actually gives women the tools they need to create a business from the inside out. There’s no holding back in this book. The book will tell you what works and what doesn’t. It just doesn’t talk about success; it shows you how to create success!

"Discovering Your Inner Samurai: The Entrepreneurial Woman’s Journey to Business Success is the secret behind The Secret for business success," so says Muzetta Swann, executive director of Willow Oak Center for Arts and Learning.

Discovering Your Inner Samurai shares stories of actual people who turned their lives around and made the journey from small business struggle to entrepreneurial success. This book teaches you how to think like a successful entrepreneur and how to discern the real talents and skills you have that will make you a winner at being an entrepreneur. My 20 years of experience working with people who focus on turning their lives around and making a difference in the world has taught me the value of going inward and connecting to my Inner Samurai. My book demonstrates how you, too, can instantly access your inner guidance system for success -- what I call your Inner Samurai!

Discovering Your Inner Samurai: The Entrepreneurial Woman's Journey to Business Success is now available from WME Books, Amazon.com and directly from me, if you would like a signed copy.

Take you pick!

Happy reading,

The Flow of the Universe

River My former business coach . . . BZ Riger . . . used this quotation by Chelle Thompson in her Master Success Mindset eZine. What I like about it is the inner river metaphor representing the outer flow of the Universe.

For a long time now, I've kept track of my inner river, what I call my Inner Samurai, to see how well I'm flowing. When things are flowing well, I feel like this picture . . . calm, renewed, excited. Calm at my center, supplied by Source, with anticipatory excitement radiating outward for all that is to come.

I can also feel when I am hung-up on a snag. I feel agitated, stuck, and restless.

Chelle's quotation reminds us of the Divine opportunities that come about when we are in the flow of the Universe:

Change has long been a fearful thing for human beings ... and at the same time, it is our most Divine opportunity. Clinging to the banks of the river may seem safe and more secure, but life's possibilities are truly engaged only when we trust, release and become part of the flow of the Universe.

What about you? Are you aware of your inner river? Can you tell the difference between when you are flowing easily and effortlessly, and when you are clinging to the shore, fearful? What's it like for you? Let us know.

When it Comes to Change, Are You a Hem or Haw?

Cheese Do you know the book Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, MD?

It’s a short, easy to read allegory about change. It reminds us of our need to find our way in the maze and to succeed in changing times.

In it are four imaginary characters: The mice, Sniff and Scurry, and the little people, Hem and Haw.

Together, they represent the simple and the complex parts of ourselves.

Sniff - sniffs out change early.
Scurry - scurries into action.
Hem - denies and resists change, as he fears it will lead to something worse.
Haw - learns to adapt in time when he sees that changing leads to something better.

Finding cheese meant a great deal more to the little people than just having enough of it to eat every day.  Finding cheese was the little people’s way of getting what they thought they needed to be happy. They had their own ideas what cheese meant to them, depending on their taste.

For some, finding cheese was having material things. For others it was enjoying good health, or developing a spiritual sense of well being. For Haw, cheese just meant feeling safe, having a loving family some day, and living in a cozy cottage on Cheddar Lane. To Hem, cheese was becoming a Big Cheese in charge of others and owning a big house on Camembert Hill.

The main activity in Who Moved My Cheese? is looking for and finding cheese. Sniff and Scurry work as a team, as do Hem and Haw. Eventually, they all find a large cheese supply in Cheese Station C and enjoy it for quite some time. Then, one day when they arrive at Cheese Station C, the cheese is gone! Responding quickly to the situation, Sniff and Scurry immediately take off in search of new cheese, while Hem and Haw stay and try to figure out what happened.

Hem wasn't about to go out in search of new cheese. He felt entitled to have the cheese and “wasn’t going to change until they put the cheese back.” Haw, meanwhile, was processing everything that had happened and concluded that he needed to go back out into the maze to search of a new Cheese Station.

Whomovedmycheese_2 Here are the 12 realizations Hem came to while searching through the maze for new cheese. Each of these gems are valuable to keep in mind for the Accidental Pren-her™ in the midst of change.

  • The more important your cheese is to you, the more you want to hold on to it.
  • If you do not change, you can become extinct.
  • What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
  • Smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old.
  • Movement in a new direction helps you find new cheese.
  • When you move beyond fear, you feel free.
  • Imagining yourself enjoying new cheese even before finding it, leads you to it.
  • The quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you will find new cheese.
  • Old beliefs do not lead you to new cheese.
  • When you see that you can find and enjoy new cheese, you change course.
  • Noticing small changes early, helps you adapt to the bigger changes that are to come.
  • Move with the cheese and enjoy it.

If you want to read more before you buy the book, Scott Watermasysk does a nice job of further sumarizing Haw's big picture conclusions.

Anyone else read the book Who Moved My Cheese?

Which character did you relate to the most? Are you a Hem, who resists change, or a Haw who adapts and changes?

Duct Tape Marketing

Ducttapemarketingbook_2 Are you a podcast listener?

Well, I certainly am. Each morning I load up my iPod with the latest episodes from my favorite podcasts, then head out for my morning walk. I love starting my day this way. Et tu?

I've been listening to John Jantsch's Duct Tape Marketing podcast for about six months now. I enjoy the variety of guests he has on his show, and how current and relevant his marketing tips are.

Two months ago, I visited his informative marketing blog site.

Last month, I purchased his book.

Duct Tape Marketing, the book, is all about marketing. Jam packed with practical help, inexpensive solutions, and years of marketing experience, this book is a great small business marketing guide. If there is one thing this book will show you, it is this:  that if you are a small business owner, you are in the marketing business. This concept alone is well worth the price of the book.

Has anyone else read this book?
What did you think?

Do you Squidoo?

Logohomewhitebg Today . . . I am thinking about what Seth Goden had to say about building a tribe on Squidoo. He posted a well-worth-the-read article over at his SquidBlog entitled, Squidoo two point oh! that got me thinking about the benefits of building a Squidoo presence for entrepreneurial businesswomen.

Do you Squidoo?
I don't. At least not yet.
However, after reading Seth's article, I'm considering becoming a Squider, or would that be a Squidooer?

So what's Squidoo? Squidoo is the world's most popular site for building free, single pages lenses about your passions. Brainchild of marketing guru Seth Godin, his premise is that:

Everyone’s an expert on something!
Share your knowledge and passion with the world.

I found his Why Build a Lens? compelling, and his Examples of Great Lenses interesting. The most fascinating concept of all was that by building a lens, you create a free way to earn royalty, for you or for your favorite charity. I really liked the charity part.

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who uses Squidoo. What have you liked about it? How's the earning royalty part going for you? Any drawbacks?

My Outer Reflects My Inner

SearchingforinnersamuraiFound this quotation from Almine Barton that I thought was a great Inner Samurai reflection point.

What do you think?

Life is a mirror and that which is within will most certainly manifest without . . . Thus the warrior changes his world by changing himself.

The Power of One Page Business Plans

OnepageplanlogowebToday . . . I am thinking about the ease of One Page Business Plans.

I've been a small business owner for awhile now, and I, like most business owners I know, wrote a business plan when I first started up my business.

Having a business plan is a strategic and financial asset. Not only does a business plan strategically guide your business, it is also invaluable for obtaining financial support and backing.

The only problem is . . . the traditional business plans are a long, arduous, and sometimes costly process filled with hours of crunching numbers, lots of grinding teeth, and struggle.

Since starting to use the One Page Business Plan books a year ago, I have met with nothing by rave reviews from my clients. They love the ease, the simplicity, and how quickly they can get their business plan done -- usually in 3 weeks time. Hats off to forward thinker Jim Horan, for making business planning a breeze.

If you are interested in creating a business plan for your new or existing company, let me know!
